Walton SO Takes 2nd Place at Carnegie Mellon

Last weekend, two Walton Science Olympiad teams traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, navigating snow-covered streets and battling freezing winds to compete in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational. This highly competitive tournament featured 35 elite teams, including several nationally ranked programs. Despite the challenges, Walton students performed exceptionally well under pressure, securing 2nd place, just 2 points behind Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. The second Walton team placed 12th overall in a strong field of competitors.

Walton students excelled across multiple events, securing first place in:

  • Air Trajectory
  • Disease Detectives
  • Helicopter
  • Microbe Mission
  • Optics
  • Wind Power
  • Write It Do It

This outstanding result highlights the dedication, preparation, and teamwork of our students, who thrived under pressure. A huge thank you to our coaches Doug Wolfe, Wes Taylor, and Matt Curtis for their leadership and for dedicating their entire weekend to guiding our students through this demanding competition. Traveling out of state and competing at this level is a major accomplishment, and Walton SO continues to demonstrate that it is one of the top teams in the nation.

We also extend our gratitude to the parent chaperones who traveled with the team and provided invaluable support throughout the weekend. Your time and effort made this experience possible for our students.

With this incredible performance, Walton builds even more momentum as we set our sights on Regionals, State, and beyond. Congratulations to all our students. Your hard work is paying off, and we could not be prouder.
